The "Moderne japanische Kunst in Heidelberg" art exhibition was held over the 3-day period of November 4 to 6 at the Heidelberg Castle in Germany, a venue whose name is well known as an historical landmark. This international art exhibition commemorated the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs' "Japan-EU-Jahres der Begegnung 2005" (Japan-EU Year of Encounters 2005) and "Deutschlandjahres 2005/2006 in Japan" (Germany in Japan Year 2005/2006) and was realized under the overall coordination of Winfried Heid, a central presence in the German art world, art critic, and art coordinator.
At the opening, the Mr. Heid spoke of his hopes for this exhibition
and a congratulatory address was then given by Andre van den Berg,
the chairperson of the Germany-Japan Society. After that came
a tape cutting ceremony, with Mr. van den Berg, Achim Frerker-Emrich
(representative of the Heidelberger Kongress |
 |
und Tourismus), art connoisseur/appraiser
Helmut Sack, Yvonne Megens (General Director of the Historic Highlights
of Germany e.V.), and of course Mr. Heid and REIJINSHA President
Kazuo Noguchi all participating. After the cutting of the tape,
the guests of honor wandered the venue admiring the artwork, and
the brilliant arrangement of the exhibits in the voluminous space
inside the ancient castle was quite popular. Built in the 10th
and 11th centuries, the weight of history can be clearly felt
in this castle and the artwork was magnificently displayed in
proximity with authentic 17th century statues.
Opinions
from exhibitors included many who said that they were very honored
to have been able to exhibit in such a setting in where contemporary
work was arranged together with such historical inheritance.
