From its 1st holding in 1994 at the Twin 21 Building in Osaka Business Park, the "OASIS" art festival has been an event with the purpose of introducing works from domestic and foreign artists representing the field of contemporary art to a wide audience.

As a new art festival that transcends the bounds of associations and teacher-apprentice, and eliminates genres and borders, knowledge of the existence of OASIS has spread from art lovers all the way to citizens that just happen to pass by.

Welcoming the milestone of its tenth year, the "10th OASIS 2005" was held over three days from May 27th to 29th. In addition, started up from 2005 in parallel with the exhibition in Osaka was "OASIS INTERNATIONAL", an event will make its stage every country in the world in an attempt to expand the futuristic vision of the original exhibition's aim of "transmissions from the artists" and "exchanges through art"

Held in Seoul, South Korea, the first international event, "2005 OASIS INTERNATIONAL in KOREA", was officially recognized by the Japan-South Korea Friendship Year 2005 Executive Committee, chaired by the painter Ikuo Hirayama, as a commemorative project of the "Japan-South Korea Friendship Year 2005" and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs became a major pillar of those activities.

At the opening ceremony on the first day of the exhibition, a congratulatory address from Mayor Jun-ichi Seki of Osaka City, which has supported OASIS every year, was read by the Director of Culture Kyosaku Fujita, and a congratulatory telegram from Governor Fusae Ota of Osaka Prefecture, a similar support of the event, was introduced as well.

Visiting Japan from abroad were exhibiting artists from the "Ambassade Internationale des Arts" group of southern France and the "Chung-Jo Fine Arts Group" of South Korea, while from Europe there were artists representing contemporary Spain, and these participants gave the exhibition suitable content for its 10th anniversary exhibition.

Along with overall supervisor Alfonso Gonzales-Calero Gonzales, Josiane Allegri-Vignal (chairperson of Ambassade Internationale des Arts), and Yang Kye Tak (president of South Korea's Chung-Jo Fine Arts Group), who all visited Japan, art critics Sakai Hasegawa and Ataru Nakano circled the venue and, while politely appreciating each work one by one, offered brief reviews of the work to the exhibiting artists who were at the hall.

Interpreters enabled opinions to be exchanged between the artists and the invited guests from abroad, and this has become a major mainstay to future creative activities of all the exhibitors.

Year after year, the color of international exchange at the OASIS art exhibition is becoming stronger and stronger, and we expect it to do so on into the future.
