Held once a year, every year, in early winter in Ginza, 2005 witnessed the 12th holding of the "Sesshu International Art Society Exhibition " and it was blessed with fine weather, as it was comparatively warm for the end of November.

This exhibition, held at the Tokyo Central Museum in Ginza over five days from November 29 to December 3, is already established in this neighborhood as a place where calligraphy and oriental painting of various styles can be appreciated in a single venue. |

In 2002, the Sesshu International Art Society held its first overseas exhibit , "Exposition de Paris en Commemoration du 500eme anniversaire de la mort de Sesshu ? L'Art des "Kakejiku" de Calligraphie et Dessin" (the Paris Exposition in commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the death of Sesshu ? The art of calligraphy and sketching in kakejiku hanging scrolls) at the Galerie Gran Paris in Paris, France, and followed that up in 2004 with the "China-Japan International Contemporary Art Exhibition" at Zhejiang West Lake Gallery in Zhejiang Province, China, in commemoration of the society's 10th anniversary.
These two overseas exhibitions became a major turning point for this society, with the "China-Japan International Contemporary Art Exhibition" an especially major leap as relationships were developed with great masters of the Chinese arts and with the Xiling Seal Engravers’ Society, regarded as the headquarters of the seal-engraving world, and that event has been perpetuated in China since then. |

Regrettably, the suiboku-ga painter, chairman of the Nippon Nanga-In painting academy, and honorary advisor to the society since its founding, Gyokusei Jikihara, passed away from heart failure at the age of 101 on September 30, 2005. This is a truly sad event in regard to exhibition management for this society as well, if only from the fact that Mr. Jikihara always took a strong stance in regard to art and offered a great many suggestions.
Using the name of Sesshu as its crown, this society will continues to use the teachings of such an excellent predecessor as food for thought as it faces new challenges. Looking forward to the next and 13th exhibition, it is the hope of the Sesshu International Art Society that exhibitions that will create ripples in the world of calligraphy and oriental painting can be created together with members and exhibitors in the future.

Starting from the 14th exhibition, the venue for the Sesshu
International Art Society Exhibition will be move to The
National Art Center, Tokyo, which is scheduled to open in
March 2007. The secretariat is steadily advancing its preparations
to expand the event to about three times its present scale for
exhibit in this vast hall.
