From
January 19th to the 23rd of 2006, the
"Feria de Arte Contemperaneo (ArteSevilla) 2006",one of the
4 largest art exhibitions in Spain, was held at FIBES, the Seville
Conference and Exhibition Centre. Beloved by people involved in
the European art scene as well as by general art afficionados, the
high level of fame that this art expo boasts was clearly evident
by the 38,000 visitors that came to the event. Posters advertising
the exhibition were hung throughout the city of Sevilla, as well
as decorating the buses that ran through town. They conveyed precisely
the high feeling of expectation in Sevilla for the holding of this
art exposition after a one-year interval. |
| Being the only
exhibition booth from Asia, "Reijinsha International" has always
garnished high interest amongst the various booths in this expo,
but this year in particular REIJINSHA was widely introduced in the
press as displaying the "mysteries of the Orient", and a great many
visitors to the event made their way to the REIJINSHA booth. Present
at REIJINSHA'S booth was Hideki Minematsu (supervisor general of
A.M.S.C., REIJINSHA's office in Spain), along with the art critic
Maria Gracia Iglesias Lodares, who also contributes to the international
art book "ART
MAISON INTERNATIONAL". The charm of the artists was warmly conveyed
to all who stopped by and showed an interest in Japanese art, while
files of each artist's activities were shown in addition to the
exhibited work.
Though the purchase of paintings at such exhibitions is not a generally established custom in Japan, in art expositions like this that are centered in Europe, prints and other works such as those of Picasso and Chagall are indeed put on sale, and scenes of general art afficionados showing interest in purchasing the artwork were prominent here. It might be due to their lifestyle of "living with art" that this art expo holds deep meaning for the citizens of Sevilla.
A Japanese boom is currently on the upswing in Spain now as a sort of second Japonism. And this exhibition was one where the fact that the number of Japanese fans is increasing through art every year was easily felt. This type of movement repeatedly changes its form along with the times, and it is our hope at REIJINSHA that artists with new sensibilities that become a spark to the world of art will appear one right after the other in the REIJINSHA booth. |
